Work and Income’s Special Needs Grant can help cancer patients cover essential or emergency costs they can’t afford.

There are income and asset thresholds that apply for WINZ support, but the special needs grant does specifically cover health travel costs.
You need to call WINZ directly on 0800 559 009
An advisor will talk with you to understand your situation and how WINZ may be able to help. They will let you know what information you need to provide and what the next steps are.
