Mental-health support for people living with neuroendocrine cancer – options across Aotearoa, including free helplines, counselling, and peer support.

Learning to live with NET cancer isn’t easy. There are free support services you can access to help you when you need it most. You may need one-on-one support, or a group session with your family to help navigate the impact of cancer on your relationships.
Canteen provides free, confidential individual support sessions for young New Zealanders with cancer (aged 12-24). You can connect with their clinical team online or face-to-face about thoughts or feelings that you may find hard to share with others. They’ll also help you develop strategies to deal with the impact cancer is having on your life – and just listen. Support is available no matter where you live in Aotearoa. Some branches of the Cancer Society offer free counselling and psychological services, but it varies by region. To find our what’s available in your area call 0800 226 237 or email info@cancersoc.org.nz. Alternatively, check the counselling services in your area online.
As with any private service, there is a charge associated with seeing a psychologists or counsellor. However, if you have health insurance it pays to check your policy to see if your provider includes emotional or psychological support and the number of sessions you may be eligible for.
